A New Year, A New Start
Welcome to our newly designed web page. It's been a few years since our last update so I suppose it was about time.
As many of you know, we have had several pretty major changes happen over the past few months. First, we moved our family from Denton, TX to Scottsdale, AZ. It was a big change but we are all enjoying our new surroundings.
Next, we switched out shopping cart system to a new one. This one seems to be much more user friendly and so far, so good. I am happy to say that feedback from you guys has been wonderful.
Finally, we have our new website. Its simple in design and hopefully it conveys to folks who we are and what we do.
2017 is looking to be a busy and exciting year. I cannot tell you how grateful I am that you are along for the ride. I look forward to seeing how it all plays out and sharing it with you along the way.
I figured I would close this first blog post on our new blog, with the story of how DFH came to be. Many of you folks who have been around since the start already know this, but I figured maybe the new folks might like to see how it all began.
So here goes...

Shannon, Meagan and Rory April of 2008
In September of 2008, after much prodding from my friends, I opened an online shop on Etsy.
Needing to come up with a fitting name, after much deliberation, I decided to name it after our own backyard. At the time we lived in Bartlett, TN just outside of the city of Memphis. Our backyard was full of old growth trees and mossy winding stone paths. As with all natural forested areas, there were many tiny hollows at the bases of the trees. Our children believed these were entrances to fairy homes.
This natural environment fueled their imaginations it was the most magical place in the world to them. They would spend hours outside in all weather climbing the trees, constructing forts and building fairy homes out of twigs, mud, moss, small rocks and various flowers when they were in bloom.
Dragonflies and fireflies were always present as were a whole host of small animals like chipmunks, squirrels and turtles. We even had a small herd of deer and one red fox who would wander thru from time to time.
With all of this in mind, I decided on the name Dragonfly's Hollow.
Name chosen, I listed my first doll and went to bed. The following morning I awoke to a message from a mama in Australia telling me she was excited to be the first person to purchase a doll from Dragonfly's Hollow. She wished me much success. Suffice to say, she made my day. I promptly went about making another doll to list in the shop. As time went on, word spread and more and more folks found us. I am happy to say many of our very first customers are still around to this day.
We moved to Denton, TX in 2010. During that time, we hired some amazing folks to join our team. Each new customer became another friend. Eventually we opened a brick and mortar shop not far from the Denton square near the campus of TWU. This was our home for two years. We got to meet up with so many of you lovely folks during that time. It was amazing.
Shortly after the passing of my mom in the spring of 2015, we decided to close the physical shop and slow things down a bit. My family was growing up fast and I did not want to miss out on precious time with them. Our sewing mamas went back to working from home bringing their finished items for drop offs at my home once a week. It was nice to be able to spend time with my family again and have a slower, calmer pace. I honestly needed that.
In August of last year (2016), we moved to Scottsdale, AZ. This brought a few changes, instead of visiting once a week, our Denton sewing mamas mail their finished items to me in AZ. We are not sure what this new chapter will bring but we are definitely looking forward to finding out. Today we are still a small family run business with various sewing mamas who are a part of our team. Each creature is still a unique creation handled with care and love as it makes its journey from shapeless, carded wool and fabric to the little creature it eventually becomes complete with its own unique personality. We still only use natural materials of the finest quality. We make them sturdy because they are intended to be a part of the child's life. Constant companions to imagine and play with as well as close friends to snuggle at night. Like the Velveteen Rabbit in Margery William's classic story, these dolls are intended to be loved until they are "real" one day.
To our old friends, we could not be here right now if it weren't for you. To our new friends, welcome. We are thrilled you are here and we look forward to you being around for years to come.
